Amniocentesis is a test usually done between 15–20 weeks of pregnancy. A small sample of the amniotic fluid surrounding the baby is taken through a thin needle inserted into the womb, under ultrasound guidance.

CVS is done between 11–14 weeks of pregnancy. It involves taking a small tissue sample from the placenta (chorionic villi), which shares the baby’s genetic makeup.

This is a specialized ultrasound that checks your baby’s growth, organs, spine, heart, limbs, and overall development. It also examines the uterus, placenta, and amniotic fluid.
