 Amniocentesis

Antenatal Testing for Baby’s Health

Amniocentesis is a test usually done between 15–20 weeks of pregnancy. A small sample of the amniotic fluid surrounding the baby is taken through a thin needle inserted into the womb, under ultrasound guidance.

Why it’s done

• To detect genetic conditions (like Down syndrome)

   

• Check for infections or chromosomal abnormalities

   

• Evaluate fetal lung maturity (in rare late-pregnancy cases)

   

Is it safe?

It’s a commonly done test with very low risk. Performed under expert hands and with full safety monitoring.

Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS)

Early Genetic Testing for Peace of Mind

CVS is done between 11–14 weeks of pregnancy. It involves taking a small tissue sample from the placenta (chorionic villi), which shares the baby’s genetic makeup.

• Detects chromosomal abnormalities early

   

• Helpful for couples with known inherited conditions

   

• Offers earlier results than amniocentesis

   

Procedure

Done through the abdomen or cervix under ultrasound guidance. Counseling is offered before and after the procedure.

Fetal Reduction

For a Safer Pregnancy in High-Risk Multiples

In cases of high-order multiple pregnancies (like triplets or more), fetal reduction may be considered to reduce health risks to the mother and remaining babies. This procedure is done early in pregnancy under ultrasound guidance.

• Reduces risk of miscarriage, premature birth, or maternal complications

   

• Improves survival chances of the remaining fetuses
