Frequently asked questions

There are a variety of contraceptive options available to you after giving birth. Depending on breastfeeding and your preference, we usually recommend implementing a contraceptive method prior to resuming intercourse with your husband.

Yes, you can! Some birth control methods are easier to insert (like an intrauterine device) if you have had children before, but all contraceptives are available to women who both have and have not had children.

Side effects can include nausea, bloating, weight gain, acne, headaches, mood changes, and irregular vaginal bleeding. Usually side effects decrease over time. If you have persistent side effects we can change the type of contraceptive pill to a different brand or formulation to hopefully reduce side effects.

Your first pregnancy can be delayed safely with the use of contraceptives without any impact on your future fertility. Most forms of contraceptives are reversible with fertility returning within a few weeks to months.

Contraceptive pills work by maintaining a certain level of hormones in your body each day. If you miss a pill by more than a few hours or a day or more, it is recommended you use a back up contraceptive method (like condoms) or remain abstinent for 5-7 days after your missed pill.
